Since its launch on December 1, 2022, Digi Yatra has been embroiled in controversy. Most recently, one of its vendors, Dataevolve Solutions has been accused by Andhra Pradesh police of defrauding them of traffic e-challan payments.

In 2021, the Niti Aayog, awarded Dataevolve a contract worth Rs 10 crore (approximately $1.2 million USD) to build the technological infrastructure for Digi yatra. It's an initiative of MOCA (Ministry of Civil Aviation) & Digi Yatra Foundation (DYF).
DYF, a not-for-profit organization owning the Digi Yatra app, is exempt from the Right to Information Act due to its private entity status. This non-government company was incorporated on 20 February 2019.
What was Digi Yatra meant to fulfil?
It is supposed to enhance the passenger experience through four key pillars: Connected Passengers, Connected Airports,Connected Flying, and Connected Systems.

Dataevolve was accused to be involved in a controversy over an alleged funds embezzlement scam in Andhra Pradesh. In November 2023, Avinash Komireddy, the CEO of Dataevolve, was arrested for allegedly stealing at least Rs 36 Crores in E-challan fees from the Andhra Pradesh police department. Komireddy is accused of using a cloned app called "Razor Pe" to siphon off funds by cloning payment gateways of traffic e-challan accounts.
