Why is Purple Up day celebrated?
Imagine you're a kid and you have to celebrate your birthday without your parents around, or spend holidays without them. Every time you visit your grandparents, they're not by your side, and during important events at school or sports matches, you watch other kids getting cheered on by their parents, but yours aren't there to support you.
Imagine having to pack up your life every two or three years. It’s tough always being the new kid in school, having to find your place all over again. Every time you finally make friends, you have to say goodbye and start from scratch.
These experiences are a glimpse into the lives of Fauji kids, who face these challenges regularly.
Purple Up Day is dedicated to recognizing these brave young souls, celebrating their remarkable resilience and grace in navigating these challenges during their childhood.
How it started?
In 1986, Caspar Weinberger, who was the US Secretary of Defense at that time, founded the April Month for Military Kid and April 15 to be celebrated as Purple Up Day!
Why Purple Color?
The color purple was chosen as it is a combination of the colors of all branches of the of US military. Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines.
Purple Up day in India
While Purple Up Day may not yet be officially recognized in India or mentioned in any of the communication of Armed Forces documents, the spirit of the day resonates universally with Fauji Kids and Fauji Family.
How to celebrate this?
Whether you are a fauji kid or civilian, you can wear purple in the month of April to show your support for fauji kids. You can post pictures on social media with #purpleupday.
What is udChalo doing about this?
At udChalo, we have embraced this occasion, bringing together fauji kids to celebrate it annually for the past three years. This gathering has swiftly grown to become a cherished event, akin to Veterans Day.
The festivities include custom-designed t-shirts, cake cutting, a fun photo booth, and an open invitation to fauji kids to join us at our office. If you find yourself in Pune today, don't miss out on the excitement at our office in Viman Nagar!
udChalo intend to make Purple Up day bigger and bigger with each year and it can't happen without the support from all fauji kids! Come and be a part of our growing tradition and post your picture on social media with #purpleupday.
Today on Purple Up day, we wish all the Fauji Kids—may you continue to excel and shine wherever you are.
Jai Hind!
